Welcome to Adelong - part of the Tumut Region

Visit Adelong, part of the Tumut Region and a gateway to the Snowy Mountains of Southern NSW.

Adelong is the heritage gateway to the Snowy Mountains nestled on the banks of the Adelong Creek. It's verandah-lined main street is classified by the National Trust (NSW) with some buildings dating back to the gold rush era of the 1800's. The nearby heritage listed industrial site Adelong Falls Gold Mill Ruins experience is not to be missed, boasting a remarkable collection of stone ruins, the remains of the Reefer quartz crushing mill.

So if it is skiing, fishing, bush walking, gold panning, canoeing, festivals, markets, horse riding, rodeos, or just a leisurely drive through the hills, then come to Adelong, the perfect spot to base your Tumut Region getaway.

Gold Mining Ruins

The Adelong Falls Gold Mill Ruins and Reserve are easily accessible. By car, head west down the main street and take the last turn right towards Tumblong and Gundagai. The Falls entrance is on the right, just past the stock yards. The interpretive area which provides a comprehensive history of the site and viewing platform are wheel chair accessible from the lower car park.  For the more nimble, a walk of about an hour, leads down from the platform to Adelong Creek and the ruins. There are signposts along the route describing the various items relating to the site.

The Adelong Falls walk from the town centre begins at the Adelong Alive museum on the main street leading to Travers Street and from there along the creek to the ruins.  The walk is signposted and takes approximately 2.5 hour to walk the return trip.

The points of interest are signposted along the way.

The mining equipment park above the entrance displays items used across the gold mining and processing activity that took place in the 1800's which made Adelong one of the most significant sites in the history of Australia's gold booms.
